I love music, and I love pianos. I believe a piano is an important part of making wonderful music accessible to any who sit at it. It is my goal to make each piano the best version of itself so that wonderful music is as easy to reach as possible.

Tuning

I use an electronic tuning device to measure the scale and tune one string of each note (each note has one to three strings). Then I tune the rest by ear. In the case that a piano is very out of tune and needs to be brought up to A=440hz (the western standard pitch), I will do a pitch change before tuning the piano. In a pitch change I tune the strings past where then are perfectly in tune so it can be more stable when doing the final tuing. There are many ways to tune a piano and each have their merits. I would love to answer any questions you have about tuning, how it works, and whether and when it is needed. Do not hesitate to contact me and ask.

Tuning appointment

A tuning appointment lasts approximately an hour and a half and includes the tuning of your piano, of course, as well as any small adjustments or fixes. Often times there are problems such as sticky keys or extra sounds that are simple fixes with the right tools and knowledge. If the fix is simple I will just take care of it free of charge as part of the tunning. Sometimes there are other fixes that take more work and could require another appointment or another charge on the same appointment. I will discuss those other issues and options going forward with you before any action. There are also times where a piano is too out of tune to be tuned stably in a single pass and a pitch change is necessary. A pitch change is part of a tuning appointment but will include another charge.

If an appointment includes more than one piano or you can set up more than one appointment close to eachother in time and location I will charge only $100 per piano.

Services

There are many other services you might want or need to make your piano work its best or, in some cases, work at all. There are many simpler fixes that I will be equipped to do as part of a tuning appointment, but there are others that require much more tools, thought and work.
